"Fish Stew" came to be in 1978, when the lead singer and
songwriter Bora Djordjevic left his accoustic band, "Early Morning
Frost", and with members of the struggling rock outfit "SOS"
formed one of the biggest and baddest bands ever to appear on the Yugoslavian
rock scene.
That same year they publish their first single, "The Cover Page
Doll", (litteral word-for-word translation of Serbian expression
for covergir", the word doll symbolizing a beautiful
woman). The single achieved incredible success, and basically put the
band on the map.
The very next year, the band hires another guitarist, thereby solidifying
their sonic signature, and forever distancing themselves from other,
"softer" rock bands of the day. That same year, they release
their very first studio album, "Bone In The Throat", which
achieved great success and basically put them on the map.
That same year, they have their first concert, which was also a great
success. The concert's low addmission price makes newspaper headlines
at a time of ever increasing ticket prices. Another landmark feature
of the concert was the number of bruised and broken bones resulting
from the huge crowds of people trying to get in.
During the song "Cover Page Doll", Bora broke a mannequin
doll on stage. The crowds went wild.
